Working for HMS Care as a Care Supervisor means you will be part of one of the North East’s leading providers of home care.
The Care Supervisor reports directly to the Registered Manager and is responsible for the team of care assistants and clients within their business area to ensure that all of the HMS care values are exceeded. You will visit customers to understand their exact requirements and create a personal care plans that deliver on their expectations. If you have a history of delivering excellent care, are a team motivator and lead by example then this could be the next logical step for you to progress up your career ladder.
Once the care plan is agreed and signed off, you and the care coordinator you will find a care worker(s) with the right skills, knowledge and personal attributes to match the customer’s requirements. The supervisor will then introduce the care worker to the customer and keep the customer up to date with any changes.
Excellent communication and organisational skills are key to this role. You must be able to develop trusting relationships with customers, their families, staff and other professionals such as district nurses, GPs and occupational therapists. The care supervisor has responsibility for taking new care workers through the induction process and providing on-going guidance, training and supervision. You will often find yourself in the role of assessor, mentor, coach and trainer.
Care supervisors need to be compassionate and self-assured, and have the knowledge and ability to model good practice whilst being prepared to challenge poor performance. You will regularly monitor the quality of service that your team of care workers provide and take action to make improvements if necessary.
The Care Assistant teams’ daily routine involves attending care visits and travelling between customers’ homes, so the Supervisor must work flexibly to support. You will be responsible for providing your own transport between calls.
HMS Care Supervisors will be expected to have, or to be working towards, a level 3 NVQ in Health & Social Care.
